IKEA BJÖRKET
This is an IKEA kitchen in the suburban Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, VA. White birch doors, drawer fronts and cover panels (BJORKET), complemented with plain white quartz and large backsplash tiles, create a sense of simplicity and harmony. This total kitchen remodel started with designing and planning, removal and disposal of the kitchen, removal of soffits and then assembly and installation of the IKEA’s SEKTION cabinets (Made in USA).
European Kitchens also installed the appliances (gas range oven, chimney range hood, dishwasher and refrigerator), the quartz counter tops, the subway tiles, as well as the sink and faucet.
A certain challenge was the floor, as it needed additional tiles, because the new kitchen layout did not fully match the footprint of the old kitchen. Here, at Virginia Kitchens, we recommend to redo the floors when you are remodelling your kitchen cabinets, but there is certainly a way to work with the existing floors. Another critical piece of information is that when installing IKEA cabinets, the floors, must be installed before the cabinets and not after. Most flooring contractor will tell you to install the cabinets first and then floors because they plan to install the floors all the way to the toekick and nail a quarter round piece (AKA baseboard shoe) in it. This is traditional approach for almost all framed cabinets but it does not work with the frameless IKEA cabinets. The floors must go under the cabinets and the legs of the kitchen cabinets must sit on the new floors. Special spacers keep the toekick in place and soft silicone strip prevents and water spills from going under the cabinets. In addition, the flooring must be installed under all appliances, i.e. range oven, dishwasher, refrigerator etc., for easy installation, repair and/or removal of the appliances later on.
